Seas the day and make a difference

As bronze sponsor of Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Challenge 2009, Hyder Consulting East Asia organised a beach clean up on 10 October 2009 at St Stephens Beach, Stanley.

Hyder Hong Kong staff, their families and friends grouped into teams and collected any garbage they could find. After after two hours, a total of 14 bags (110kg) were filled with plastic, glass, lids, cans, food wrappers, pull tabs, fishing nets and lines, tarps, and cigarette butts.

The rubbish was sorted and recorded before being disposed at the appropriate waste handling station. The data has been given to Ecovision for preparation of the 2010 ICC Data Report which will help citizens, community groups, municipalities, industry, and government develop solutions for pollution problems associated with coastal and water-borne debris, and create better solutions for managing debris.

This beach cleanup event not only brought Hong Kong employees together on a beautiful day at the beach, but also highlighted Hyder’s commitment to making a difference to local communities.
