“When plans to extend operations at Tahmoor mine were announced, our client, Ingham Enterprises, needed to assess the risk factors for its neighbouring turkey processing facility."

Study mitigates risk from mine expansion

From an operational and occupational health and safety point of view, Ingham wanted to understand the potential impact of any localised mine subsidence on their plant and process services.

Much of its plant was constructed in the late 1960’s and, as such, the age of some of the structures and process services were the main areas of investigation to minimise the risk of plant failure. These included ammonia handling for cold store facilities which would pose significant safety and operational risk in the event a pipeline ruptured due to excessive building and/or structural movement.

Hyder conducted a thorough inspection of the identified risk elements and assisted in the development of strategies and methods that mitigated the risks including component renewal, articulation of joints and development of inspection and test plans to monitor the subsidence effects such that other preventative measures could be applied if deemed necessary.
