Innovative energy strategy sought for Beam Reach
An energy strategy, based on use of renewable energy, is helping the London Development Agency (LDA) target a 25% reduction in carbon emissions on part of an industrial redevelopment zone in the east of London.
The Beam Reach Business Park is located within the 6 sq. km London Riverside Zone of Change and is one of a number of development sites that are elemental to the LDA’s strategy to reclaim derelict land and develop it for industrial uses.
Beam Reach 5 was previously part of the Ford motor works (the former Mudlands site) and comprises 365,000 sq m of land fronting the new A13 dual carriageway. The site has outline planning approval for 101,000 sq m of primarily industrial usage.
The LDA is interested in promoting an energy centre for future site tenants potentially utilising communal heating networks and CHP technologies.
The energy assessment was conducted in two parts, the first being a preliminary assessment of all potential technologies, and the second being a detailed analysis of three specific alternatives: biomass heating, biomass combined heat and power, and biomass combined cooling heat and power.
